Red Jeans & Warm Colors

March 5, 2013

It has been very politely brought to my attention that, while I did discuss the utility of red jeans back when I purchased my own pair of them, I have not addressed the possibilities of wearing red jeans with warmer colors.  Since red is positioned on the color wheel precisely between yellow and blue, it has the charm of being neither a warm color nor a cool color, and thus can “swing both ways”, in wardrobe terms.  And for those of us who don’t care to wear bright colors too near our faces, for a variety of reasons, a brightly colored pair of jeans or trousers is an interesting option to consider.

This is very pretty, especially combined with brown. The scarves tie in these colors so nicely. I only wish that I had the guts to wear red pants…

You make it so clear that I need to spend more on scarves and less on clothing!

That is the # 1 lesson I learned here too!

I love these combinations, but I can't justify buying a pair of red jeans at the moment. I bought a pair of bright pink jeans recently, which look almost red – any suggestions for warm colours to wear with them (or even better, would you do a post with bright pink jeans?!)

With bright pink jeans, consider light pink, light blue, lavender, silvery grey and chocolate brown or navy.

I get so inspired by these posts! I realize that I called out mostly cool colors to wear with your bright pink jeans but those are favorite combinations of mine.

I have some red linen pants I bought and then struggled to wear as much as I would like.
This gives me some great ideas for them this summer, presuming they still fit this year!

Janice, these combos are masterly. You have really excelled yourself here! I wouldn't dream of wearing red jeans – or so I thought – but I've not only enjoyed 'reading' these outfits, I actually wish I had them. Red jeans and femininity, who'd have thought?!

I am a very short, curvy pear shape and I love colored jeans. Skinnies aren't for me though and I look best with colored jeans that are bootcut which are harder to find. I have red, fuchsia, aqua, purple, neon lime. They make me happy.

To Ellen — try colored skirts. The same principle works. Or you can go with colored jeans and tunics.

I *love* this! I would *love* to try it! However, as a pear shaped weeble of a woman, I'd be concerned that colored jeans would only accentuate the one part of my body (my thighs) that I'd really and truly rather CONCEAL. I've tried on colored jeans before and have found ones that do fit. But I can never see myself actually wearing them, thanks to the two tree trunks and tush that I have.

Thoughts on colored jeans flattering those of us with, well, some bodonkadonk?
