May 2025 Six Paintings – 12 Months #5 – Street Lights by Stefan Johansson

May 2, 2025

You know, if you chose to build your wardrobe around this painting, you’d have more colors available that I show in this wardrobe. (I’ve got to draw a line somewhere, to avoid being completely overwhelmed!)

There’s some lovely blue in the water here, for example:

This wardrobe would serve one well for much of the year, or for a range of weather conditions. I wouldn’t want to go somewhere blisteringly hot with this, but anything short of that would be just fine:

With upcoming hot weather in mind (in the Northern Hemisphere!), our heroine grabbed a pair of shorts and another pair of sandals, as well as two summer tops. And a really cool sweatshirt, with a quilted cable pattern in it. I love a good texture!

Cable quilt sweatshirt – Louche; orange sweater – Alex Mill; cotton scarf – Henelle; estate green tee – Lands’ End; heritage stone shorts – L.L.Bean; sandals – Teva; tote bag – L.L.Bean

Yet again, our heroine’s wardrobe isn’t fundamentally changed, just made more robust. I think that’s a sign of successful identification of one’s personal style…

I’m smitten with all accessory families for all of our heroines. There’s something so satisfying about these images!

This heroine will easily be able to find Spring and Summer garments to finish her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe. At least I think so – I’m always optimistic!

And as always, new garments = new outfits! If you bring home a piece of clothing and can’t find at least three ways to wear it, you need to think of a REALLY good reason to keep it! Maybe a dress for a special event, although more and more that’s a reason to rent or borrow something…

Although these aren’t my best colors (and I’d have to really wash the purple highlights out of my hair!), I could still be quite happy with these clothes on a nice long trip…

love,

Janice

p.s. Ten years ago, we considered the possibilities of an orange handbag!

I was originally drawn to this wardrobe as I want to wear earth colours this summer. The only colour I was not keen on was mustard. Yet I have found three pieces in a mango-ish mustard colour that actually work. So love it!

This is a fantastic wardrobe. To stretch it into the hottest days of summer, I can envision a mustard or deep coral print sundress, an olive skort and a white poplin skirt. I can also see a floppy sun hat with any of the accent colors as a ribbon hat band too. Mustard is having a moment now, and I think there will be a fair number of warm weather pieces as we look ahead to steamier months.

Personally, I love these colors. But, a dear friend of mine is a beautiful redhead with a plethora of freckles. I think she’d look like a million bucks in this palette! As much as I dig olive green, I can only wear it in dashes….and much better in a pattern. Head to toe olive on me makes me look like a mechanic or a soldier. But, I’d wear one piece of it with a neutral any day!

While this is a great wardrobe, it’s a bit bright and saturated for my particular coloring. I would have to tone the orange down to rust or perhaps terracotta. The mustard would soften to a butter yellow or even tan. The olive could be sage. And share neutral status with the brown. There is some blue, as Janice points out. Also grey in the clouds. Just my mental tweaking of a great wardrobe. Love that scarf!

      sandy b,
My personal coloring would also be better served with your more muted color suggestions. I think that it’s the mustard color here that is throwing me off the most for feeling “out of season” as well as too bright .

These might not be my colors, but I find this wardrobe incredibly cheerful. Thanks Janice, TGIF and I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

    Janice,
I love the colors, though they feel Autumnal to me. Perhaps the addition of some blue pieces , of which I wear a lot in the Summer, would help expand my restricted way of thinking about this lovely grouping .

I like this wardrobe more and more. This bright yellow suits me perfectly, and I have a few summer pieces (patterned tops, skirt, shorts/trousers) in my closet.
Today I wore a curry-colored dress. And I love olive, too.

I can just picture this wardrobe on a few friends! It’s really lovely and quite versatile. I missed out on commenting on the Lum posting and I have to say I really loved it. These are all so inspiring. Have a great weekend everyone.

Such a cheerful wardrobe, you can’t help but smile. Great start to the weekend. These wardrobes are so helpful in helping me to figure out what I need and don’t need in my more leisurely lifestyle now. Thank you Janice.

it would be easy to soften the colors in this capsule by using yellow instead of mustard and peach instead of orange. Another option would be to swap either the mustard or orange for the aqua color of the water in the painting. What’s great about these capsules is their adaptability.

This one…I’m so sorry but the only parts of it that I find I actually like are the white bits. Of all colors, olive, mustard and orange are my least favorite. I’m not knocking them for absolutely anyone else and everyone has the right to their own likes. But for me personally this combination is kind of actively repulsive. lol. I know that there are people out there who they would look absolutely lovely on though, so I’m glad that their tastes are being represented.

I think seeing things that immediately do NOT appeal is useful – you know full well that you should never be tempted by these colors! You can only draw the image of your personal style if you draw the lines that keep LOTS of things OUT of your preferences…
      love,

These aren’t colors for me either but in the fall I want to wear at least a little bit of tallish color. I have a long sleep tunic, mustard with double with stripes that seems to work bc it cooler or perhaps just muted. Also a rust dressy shirt. But my favorites are a pair of mustard sandals and a bucket bag in the same color. Those work so nicely with my navy pieces and a couple fall theme scarves with lots of white and navy besides the fall colors and so it works for my cooler coloring. As someone else noted, my friend would shine in these.

Long swing tunic. And fallish. Silly spell checker.

I always like the cohesiveness of wardrobes in these colours. I could imagine these colours would be great for travelling in Southern Spain, Egypt, an African safari, or a trip to Australia.

Love the textured sweatshirt. All the accessories are so well chosen.
