Silly shoes strike again…

State Street and Madison, yesterday afternoon.  She crossed again the light.  She fell. The oncoming car screeched to a halt to avoid hitting her.  And was promptly rear-ended by a bus…

She got up and walked away…

That is awful. People please use common sense and caution. I hope the others were ok.

I like fashion, but I remember what a bad idea platform shoes were back in the 70"s, and spraining my ankle with them. I am mostly avoiding the fashion trend with them this time around. When fashion makes basic body functions like walking dangerous I think they cross the line. One of the benefits of gaining wisdom with years….or maybe just learning that it is ok to choose not to participate in some trends….

I love the shoes that French women d'un certain âge wear for walking about in Paris. One of my favourite brands is Arche. Platforms should be left for the young.

I'm glad that she's okay. I feel badly for the drivers of the car and bus. The CTA driver will, undoubtedly lose his/her job. The auto driver is faced with car repairs. All of this because someone took a silly risk.

High-heeled, shoes aside (perhaps not a prudent choice in the Loop), the decision to cross against the light in a heavily trafficked area of a major city makes my head spin.

I used to walk the length and breadth of NYC in heels. I was determined that I would not be seen in flats. I once walked 40—yes–40– blocks in stilettos. By the time I arrived at Met, my feet hurt so badly, I literally couldn't take one more minute. Thankfully, it didn't take my falling into oncoming traffic for the lesson to sink in: when in NY (or anywhere), it's more impressive to be pulled together and calm than to suffer in fabulous shoes, stressed out and in pain.

Oh my, a girl and her shoes. I admit to a 'problem' but lost the heels some time ago. 2 inches max! Nice collection of flats here, you can never have enough black shoes, yes?

Hopefully the driver is insured, the CTA driver will not likely lose their job, unless gross negligence is involved.

Now the she wearer….hopefully the tumble will 'knock some sense into her' as my Mother would say.

BTW, anyone who walks 40 blocks, in NYC, in stiletto's needs to be honored. Bravo!!!

One of the main reasons I LOVE your blog is the fabulous style without the ridiculous shoes. Thank you!

A bad knee has put heels of any sort off limits. When the doc first said no heels I was horrified, how could I look put together and professional without wearing heels? now I realize how ridiculous that thought was. My shoes are meticulously picked for comfort and how they look with my wardrobe. I constantly get compliments and I never have to worry about twisting an ankle (at least not due to my shoes ;)) It was a difficult lesson to learn but this is what I love about your blog. The focus on how it's not about the specific item, it's about the synergy in the overall package.

That's why I stick to flats when running through the city :-)

That is a scary story Janice! No worries here as I don't think I have ever worn over two inch heels. Would you consider writing a post about flats–and how to wear them well. I would love know which brands of flats some of you love. I do have a pair of Arche flats. My Naots are clunky, but I wear them for comfort. I need some direction for stylish flats! Weitzman is my go to brand for my low heels.

I love Umberto Raffini flats. My orthopedist was the one who introduced me to them. Super comfy and lots of super cute style. Ecco also often has some great styles and a great business model that focuses on environmental and social responsibility.

Actually, the culprits are ridiculously high heels, it platforms (if we're going by the picture). I have a pair of platforms that are delightfully easy to walk in, since thte heel and toe ar on the same plane. Technically, Danskos, which are very comfortable and very stable, are platforms, too.

I have a pair of Danskos that I don't wear anymore because for some reason they make me very unstable. I have tripped on nothing and come crashing to the ground several times while wearing them. It's a pity because they are cute and otherwise comfortable.
