This caught my eye instantly:

This painting also has plenty of black and some pretty pink…

Our heroine has a casual week planned, with only one or two days in which she will have to be out and about. She loves sweatshirts and sweatpants – especially this pair, which are comfortable but still have a bit of style. The pants – without elastic ankles on the pant legs – look much less sporty than an identical pair with the elastic. These little details matter!
When you’re starting your weekly Domesticated Valise, it’s important to think about what the week ahead will be like, for you. If you have four meetings, it may not be the week for sweats!

Quarter-zip sweatshirt – Lands’ End; earrings – Mint & Lily; small scarf – Lilia Munn; sweatpants – Lands’ End; soft amethyst tee shirt – Lands’ End; tote bag – Portland Gear; sneakers – Abeo
Jeans can look pretty nice with a strongly-colored accent. This handbag is so tempting (and yes, it comes in a glorious purple!).

Merino cardigan – Alex Mill; scarf – Elizabetta; socks – COS; white tee – Lands’ End; handbag – Brahmin; jeans – GAP; boots – Easy Street
These pants might be the perfect compromise between lovely wool and casual drawstring. Add in a couple of sweaters that are styled just like sweatshirts might be, and you’ve straddled the casual/dressy divide perfectly:

Soft amethyst cotton sweater – Lands’ End; scarf – Talbots; grey crewneck sweater – Madewell; purple striped shirt – Madewell; loafers – Talbots; handbag – Lloyd Baker; wool pants – Alex Mill
For some reason, this palette makes me think of trees with lilac flowers, the beginnings of green leaves, and grey trunks and branches…

Our heroine probably has seven outfits already planned – at least in her mind. But let’s take a look at what possibilities lie within this 10-piece grouping:

Does it go without saying that the Domesticated Valise could instantly become the Last-Minute Travel Valise, if circumstances change?
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, I shared the last of my Tote Bag Travel ideas – this one in red, white and blue. Our heroine was going to the symphony, all by herself!

I’m loving the turn from travel-ready to life-ready! As you pointed out here, this can be tossed into a backpack or trolley in a second, but will make your week less stressful and extra styled! Even casual clothes with a more careful approach look so different.
I would love to see a black, red and white or yvory example.
I’m currently struggling with my ‘domesticated valise’ going wild. Between the wardrobe change, the ‘summ-all’ (fall that looks like summer) and my change in taste and weight, many of the clothes I used to love look big or weird. I’m still using linnen pants and is almost November (!!), so I do need a jacket in the morning/evening, but I found out most linnen pants look horrible with jackets or anything padded or bulky. So, I’m back to trying out my current clothes to find the gaps and fill them in a clever way.
In sum, big thanks Janice, you make all the difference in my absent-minded style!
