This will warm us up!
Our heroine is committed to building a wardrobe in these colors; her patience might be tried, finding clothes! Beautiful as these colors are, they’re not ubiquitous…
At the end of January, this was our heroine’s eight-piece wardrobe. It all goes together nicely, and includes a deeply beautiful scarf!

This month there wasn’t any grouping of clothes, or complete outfit, that appealed to our heroine, so she instead found four garments that are perfect in her wardrobe, and pretty doggone lovely, too!
The scarf she found is relatively small – it’s described as a bandana. In the warm weather, tied in her hair, or to the handle of her tote bag, or around her wrist, it will be a perfect small touch of color…

This is where you can really tell if wardrobe additions make any sense – do they stick out like a sore thumb, or do they blend in seamlessly?

This heroine’s 12-piece wardrobe includes pieces from three seasons! But when you shop, some things are on sale and refer back to earlier seasons, or they’re brand new and they’re for the seasons to come. It’s not easy!
I can so easily picture this heroine – russet hair, freckles, green eyes…

The cut of the orange dress is very beautiful.
I bought a perfect pair of green (and plum) pants in the winter sales on Friday. Yes, it’s difficult to get exactly that tone.
I already put the pintucked blouse in my cart in two colors! This collection is fun.
Janice thank you so much for supplying us with grid, however where are the knitted jumpers/sweaters for deep winter? Am I missing something? Too cold here for cotton in mid-winter…
Textured tops. That’s as close as this grid gets. Do I need to re-think the grid?
Or maybe we all need to start playing with the grid to get it closer to our personal 52? Like for people who don’t wear turtlenecks – there’s some space there for some real core garments that would be more useful to them…
Always remember that the vast majority of what I think of starts with my wardrobe, and the way I dress – it’s not necessarily going to work for everyone unless each of us makes a few, very personal, adjustments. That said, I own a ton of sweaters, and I need to figure out where I will put them in this plan!

Thank you for your speedy response. I have been playing with it to meet my needs and have inserted my items into the various boxes, using it more as a guideline. Just thought I may be not getting something. You definitely do not have to rework the grid! I added on sundresses. I think my grid will be a little more than 52 and I think being flexible is the way to go for sure. Thanks for confirming this idea.
And there IS a space for a sundress. But I wanted a sleeveless dress and sundress! Mid-summer uniform.
Janice, as long as we’re scrutinizing the grid, please tell me where there is an “accent or print short-sleeved tee” (from the spring column) in this wardrobe so far. I matched all the clothes in the final “everything” picture with another check mark, and then double checked – nothing was left over. Am I missing something? (I often do.)
I like the Weekly Timeless Wardrobe template very much, and want to make sure Il use it to best advantage.
On another note, that bright yellow and orange butterfly-print bandana is fabulous. I’d love to see that print in a summer skirt or pants.
Oooh, good catch! Is that supposed to be an accent or print long-sleeved tee? I need to re-do this for next month… How would I ever keep things organized without all of you?

Oh, and Second Layers – for those of us who stock ALL THE WAY UP on turtlenecks, a heavy sweater goes over that! Maybe?

I’m on track with this thread. I almost posed a question yesterday about recommendations for tweaking the template for warmer climates that don’t need the entire winter wardrobe. You have given such great advice already i started to answer my own question! I would probably condense winter down to a 4 pack with one turtleneck, one sweater, one pair of warm pants and a warm dress. I’d then add in more summer dresses and lightweight bottoms. I always prefer more shorts and pants in a hotter climate.
First off thanks for the updated print out/grid. This is one painting I’m not trying to recreate but yes I can see one of my friends looking stunning in these colors! In my opinion this is a colorway that one might just have to carry little swatches and your grid around with you. When one is out and about and one stumbles across anything that is missing buy it if you love it and try it out. I’m taking lots of notes and pulling from my existing wardrobe for the paintings with colors I wear. It’s always so fun to use Janice’s brain!
I love these colors – don’t wear them now my hair is gray/purple, but there was a time when I did. Reminds me of a garden of Asiatic lilies
Although no way my colours I love the clothing options and that painting! The orange I wear is clear and bright but I am thinking most sunsets have a pink component so perhaps the truly orange adverse could opt for a warm coral that is more on the orange side of pink.
It’s always a mistake to match our clothing to hair colour, always use your skin tone be it cool or warm. This wardrobe would look great on a wide variety of women with warmer skin tones be that skin very light or very dark or in between.
Now those barrel jeans..they look so cute in flat lay but make me at 5’1” look like a clown. Especially with my size 9 feet!!! Maybe these are narrower?
Anyway early days yet and plenty of options still available.
My best colours definitely change with my hair colour. I know it is not what the experts say but I have personally experienced it. When my hair is my natural silver I can wear very few warm colours (I look hideous) and when my hair is toned copper they look good. I was born cool but could always wear most warm colours well (until my hair went silver).
I loved everything in yesterdays post, but I hate this. The art, all the clothes. I saw a YouTube that claimed we intuitively know our best colors. If so, why would one pay a stranger to tell you what to wear? It’s interesting how we react to color.

I followed your link to the costume jewelry extravaganza 10 years ago. I was wondering how well those pieces incorporated into your wardrobe and whether you still wear them today?
I always love these wardrobes. Even though these are not my colors I find these additions beautiful and on point. If I used these colors this would be so perfect. Thanks for the updated grid. Playing around with mine as it is never cold where I live.
The orange dress with the poppy scarf! 💕 It would leave me looking disastrous! I think people sometimes wear colors not suited to them because of advertising, perceptions of what’s on trend, and what’s actually available. I remember reading once that department stores used to carry a wide range of colors in every size in t shirts for example. But that’s not the case now days. We see the in trend colors and if that’s not what’s flattering we go without or wear a less than perfect item. So I think those kinds of situations could cause someone to get messed up in their clothing color purchases.
I need to focus on the spring and summer side of the grid.
I am about 5’6” , size 7 shoe and the barrel pants would do me no favors either!
Forty years ago, when I worked in a department store, we used to carry an entire round rack of tee shirts, and cotton shirts, and SILK SHIRTS!!!! in every possible “makeup” color. All kinds of pinks, reds, corals – anything that would be a lipstick was available in a top. And these colors go with EVERY neutral – it’s kind of magical.
But no more… sigh…
