A PINK coat…

Trench – Alice & Olivia, hat – Kate Spade, loafers – T&F Slack Shoemakers, earrings – Wedgwood, trainers – Hogan

Today, I’m guest-posting (have I recently mentioned what an HONOR this is?) over at A Femme d’un Certain Age.  My project is to take seven really basic pieces of clothing (from L.L.Bean), and snazz them up with a great coat and some amazing accessories.  It’s great fun…

The pink is lovely and flattering to most people…I don't know why it so often gets a bad rap. Pink is nothing but light red!!
Your choices with the pink coat are perfect!
    Thank you for your insights!

Well this is fun. Pink was never a color in my closet, until I tangled with breast cancer. Since then, my son, who believes everything requires the appropriate outfit, has presented me with a wide variety of pink items. Now I have lots of new ideas on how to wear them. Thanks!

So what do all of you think about pink for the office? I've always been afraid that it takes away some of my hard-won authority in a male-dominated field. But maybe I'm over-thinking it?

As long as it's not baby pink with ruffles and embroidered flowers, I think it's great! The true mark of having authority is the ability to look these stereotypes right in the eye and say "I don't care, I look good in pink…". Belovedest wears pink shirts, and a gorgeous pink cashmere sweater, and nobody questions his authority because he can walk the walk. It's not over-thinking; we grew up in an environment in which these questions were relevant, and we had to be careful. But if you've got authority, flaunt it!

I frequently wear one of two pink sweaters (cardigan) to work. One is a bit fancier, so I am careful when I wear that, but I don't feel the least bit diminished. Try it!

I really really have to get a closer look at those Odeon pink sneakers!!! I've searched, but can't find a source…where did you find them?

Debenhams. When I lived in Ireland, it was one of my favorite stores…

Acting on what i have learned from you … this was my wardrobe for a four-day trip to NYC last spring – pink coat with grey and white, and a LBD. It worked beautifully and you get full credit. Made me very happy.
