Paris: scarf shopping at Crimson

October 19, 2012
Crimson is an absolutely irresistible, tiny little Paris shop that specializes in cashmere.  A dreadful temptation…
The above is a close-up of the scarf I purchased.  It’s a bit sheer-ish, and it’s FIVE FEET WIDE, and SEVEN FEET LONG…  It is about the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever owned; it looks great with black, delicious with grey, and I have a hunch I’ll be able to wear it for decades.
I could have bought another sweater, or another dress, but this scarf will outlast anything like that, and will remain gorgeous long after another piece of clothing is forgotten!

love,

Janice

Forgot to add that I hope you find a denim skirt very soon. I bought an EF straight to knee denim skirt about two years ago and never felt that I styled it just right. You surely could come up with an idea or two???

Lovely scarf and I can just imagine how delicious it must feel around your neck! Thank you for not making us wait to see what you bought. Exceeds what I had imagined. Can we see it styled, pretty please.

    Wow it looks beautiful…
I love the feathery pops of colour.
If it's as sheer as you say you'll be able to wrap it a few times without too much bulk.

That scarf is really a thing of beauty. Delicious color and pattern. I can imagine if it's somewhat sheer, how the width and length of it can be shaped into all sorts of looks without bulk. Fun!

Magically beautiful scarf that must feel fantastic! (I know Crimson, but never associated it with prints.) Reminds me of Hermés "Plumes", (which is made in the cashmere shawl version) but in a deeper/brighter palette. IMO this is what shopping abroad should be, a standout piece rather than many bits and pieces of just okay quality.

    lovely; you'll use that forever!!

in lieu of travelling to Paris, one could buy a couple of yards of silk chiffon in a good fabric store…of course, it helps to know how to do a hand-rolled hem (and to have to patience to sit down and do it)…

Jean, here is a video from Hermes showing how to do a hand rolled hem. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=bcVQFmBCCA0&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DbcVQFmBCCA0

Great idea. I have done that once. I swore to make a few more. It actually turned out well. Better go check my fabric stash. I think I still have one or two unfinished ones. There is another video on the subject from someone who showed all the steps, including pre-stitching on machine a straight seam that gets hidden under the hand-rolled edge. She did this to avoid unraveling while hand sewing, as it is necessary to hold the fabric rather taut while sewing.
