Brooches for Winter

I fully intended to hold back this post until it was a bit closer to winter, and the winter holidays, but since all of these brooches are available right now, on ebay, I thought I’d go ahead and give you some eye candy…

While a brooch might not be considered a wardrobe essential, even the “non-brooch” people among us have to admit that these are pretty – especially when aggregated thematically…  And the vintage brooches are often beautiful quality for a modest price!

love,
Janice

My only holiday themed pin is a Halloween pin that was one of those fundraiser House pins. It's really different and I get many compliments when I wear it. I'm just realizing that I didn't put it on my jacket yet and it has a very limited useful period!

Love these and I agree that it is so visually delightful seeing them in like groupings. :)

I haven't worn brooches with a seasonal theme, except for maybe picking up a seasonal color, such as aquamarine in summer and topaz in fall, etc. But your post reminded me that I had a starburst pin of about 1 1/2" diameter in good stones ( little rubies and diamonds) that I haven't looked at for years. I'll wear it over the winter holidays this year.

LOVE! Brooches are another way to stylishly carry memories. I have several from my mother, as well as some of her earrings turned into brooches. I think of her whenever I wear them.

I purchased a few wonderful vintage crystal Christmas Trees and a wonderful Reindeer crystal pin in the Czech Republic last year. I cannot wait to wear them. I am, normally, a non-brooch person but the holidays are perfect. I have no problem wearing them with knits, but am always afraid I might damage some of my other clothing…..

I used to display my pins on pillows in my bedroom. When my daughter was little I decided to put them up for safety's sake and there they stayed. They have a new life thanks to you and an earlier, wonderful post of yours on brooches. It reminded me to take them out and display them again. I also inspired me to add to my collection a beautiful vintage enameled leaf pin I found on Etsy for just a few dollars. I also unearthed a leather leaf pin my best friend in high school gave me (30+ years ago) It still is beautiful and oh the memories.

I had a genetics professor in college who wore a different "fly" brooch every day – it was great fun to see which one she would pick to lecture in that day. For what it's worth, she actually did work with fruit flies…

I've never worn brooches in all my sixty years, but recently I revamped my jewelry and decided to embrace the brooch. I have several vintage ones from my mom and mother-in-law, and I think I need to wear them. Thanks for the inspiration.

There are some lovely ones in there. I like the snow flakes and some of the wreaths. I had a cheap stylised Christmas tree that I wore on festive occasions. I'll keep an eye out for something similar for this season.

I am really conflicted about these brooches. Some of them seem downright gaudy but maybe I have just never really had an open mind to the concept. It reminds me of the Christmas sweaters etc. I might just be a bit boring but many of them seem very "Disney". I can't imagine a chic Frenchwoman wearing "theme" jewelry. I will have to really ponder this. I feel I must be wrong since I usually agree in concept with everything you teach us.
