I REALLY Need Your Opinion...

First, something pretty, just down the street from my home, on Michigan Avenue:

I love the juxtaposition of the bricks with the beautiful birds and flowers

As I return from my sabbatical, I realize that I need to limit my number of blog posts to 5 per week. I've been doing 6, most of the time, and that generally requires me to either work a few long days, or work on weekends. That's becoming unsustainable, both for my physical and mental health.

So, my question is this:

Would you rather have me post on Monday through Friday?

or Tuesday through Saturday?

It's pretty much all the same to me, but I want to do what the majority of you find most enjoyable and compatible with your reading habits.

Even if you've never commented before, you can comment anonymously, and just leave a comments of Monday-Friday, or Tuesday-Saturday.

I know, in the grand scheme of our lives right now, this is a pretty small matter, but it's important to me that I write The Vivienne Files in a way that's most responsive to you all.

Because of the love,
Janice

  1. Dear Janice,
Honestly, I don't care. Do whatever you need to do to keep this blog afloat for a long time to come. Six quality blog posts every week has been superhuman. Five, or three is plenty, and many bloggers with a content quality similar to yours update once a week or even less. Their blogs are still read and loved because in the end, it's the quality that counts, even today. The information overload- in fashion matters especially- is huge, but most of is it just junk. Ten-times recycled junk in twice recycled wrappers.
So what I'd love you to do is to consider, which schedule is most comfortable and convenient to YOU and follow your heart this time. You spend so much time and effort in creating this lovely blog for us, it's only fair for you to have the freedom in deciding how to do it best and in a way that contributes to your own wellbeing as well.

    Love, SaraK

    1. I agree with every word SaraK said. I love your blog and put off reading it until Saturday morning and then I give myself a real treat, Breakfast and Blog, so it really doesn't matter. (PS. Yours is the only blog I squirrel away like that). You do what is best for you. Best, Ana B

    2. agree - I will read your blog regardless of which days you post and how often.

  2. What a lovely surprise to come home to after camping for the weekend (not a suggestion for a post as it poured with rain so it was wellies and goretex).

I agree with SaraK that it really is up to you and I'm happy with any decision you make. However, I find I rarely have any time to myself at weekends so Monday to Friday would suit, but honestly, 1, 3, 5, whatever-number-you-decide on Mon-Fri, Tue-Sat or whatever-days- you-decide is absolutely great with me. Thank you! x

  3. I love your blog and I look forward to reading it when I need to decompress during a break at work. So, my preference would be to stick within the standard workweek days. I missed you terribly while you were away, but I also can appreciate, respect (and encourage you) to take the time you need for yourself to maintain your emotional and physical strength -- whatever it takes so that you'll continue to be able to bring us your beautiful insights and wonderful stories :)

  4. I always look forward to your posts and I don't mind when they come - I think like other commentators you should do what suits you best and we'll just enjoy! thank you for all the hard work you put into this. And this is a lovely alternative to the rest of the world and much appreciated

  5. Also agree with SarahK - entirely up to you! Even 3 times a week would be fine, maybe alternate days? Whatever suits you best

  7. I agree with SarahK too - gosh, we are lucky to read you as often as we do - whatever days are best for you!

  8. Again, either way is fine. People probably have either more time to read on Sunday or less because they have family things to do. I need my cup of coffee every day, and I read your blog and a few others with it before even getting dressed (and in fact, you help inspire me when I do get dressed). What's easiest for you?

  9. I totally agree with the others that you should choose a schedule to suit yourself and your other commitments. We all love and appreciate you, so it's a treat whenever you post on your blog, however (as a fellow blogger who is very inconsistent compared to you!) we want you to continue enjoying what you do, as that joy always comes across.

  10. Joining the majority here. I really don't mind, I'll read whenever I have time, and I don't really care what day of the week it is. Just keep on writing - you are such an inspiration!

  14. I agree with those above that you should do what works best for you. Like so many others I love your work and am putting it into practise little by little. If you pushed me for a preference I would say Mon-Fri.
    All the best.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would vote for Mon. thru Fri. as I usually start my day with your blog - however, I'm with Sarak, whatever you can manage is fine with me. And when you need a break please take it - we are all entitled to that It is obvious that you put a lot of work into this blog - which we all appreciate. I truly appreciate the quality of the posts and I realize that you do a lot of research - so - even 4 days a week (with say you taking a Wed. off) would be fine with me.

  16. Either choice is fine for me, so do whatever works best for you and for others who have a preference. Thanks again for all of your hard work!

  18. Monday-Friday would be great, but truly either is just fine. I've missed you.

  19. I will also go with what works for you. When you don't post, I go to "Labels" and pick a topic and re-read older posts. There is always new inspiration to be obtained from re-reading.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sarah said it for me too. I enjoy and learn from the blog, I don't mind when you post, I'm happy and grateful to read new articles whenever they come. I also find the archives an invaluable resource and often refer to them too.
Whatever you do, please don't do too much!
PS I love the street art - and the fact that the building has lacy corsets in its history seems so appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have no preference, whenever you post is fabulous for me! I will say that many bloggers avoid weekend posting because of reduced readership. I'd imagine your blog stats would reflect when your blog gets the most views/reads - nancyo

  40. Do whatever suits you and your mood/time. Vary it if you want. I check your blog the first thing EVERY morning and if there is no new blog. I look at the last couple and enjoy them all over again. When you were on your break, I looked at blogs in the archive and enjoyed you even more! Surprise us, just do blogs when YOU are inspired. Really! Although I love your blog more than any other and it is a daily treat.. Don't make it for you Into a "have to" or set schedule. I don't think any of us are going anywhere ..we will be here. 41. Dear Janice, the consensus seems to be that you should post whenever you can. I'm all for you posting when you feel like it and having a happy, healthy and well-balanced life. Balance is everything and becomes even more important as we get older.

Bottom line, my Dear, is that every time you post, it's like getting a beautifully wrapped present you can't wait to open.

    Hugs and cheers, M-T

  42. I'm much more likely to be in front of a computer M-F, but if you posted T-S, I would just read Saturday's post on Monday! Please work whatever schedule works for you - I'll be here to cheer you on!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I prefer Tuesday-Saturday, simply because not many bloggers post on Saturday. But I'm fine with whatever you choose. Please take care of yourself as you see fit. We will adjust. You have the best clothing and dress blog on the Internet, IMHO.

  44. I am with everyone else. Anytime for me as I always enjoy reading your blog and would like for you to enjoy developing them as much we enjoy reading and learning. 45. Hi
Any 5 days of the week is fine with me. I check in to enjoy a new post but if there is not one, I come back the next day! And if you decide to do 2 and then 2, perfectly fine. Like the others, I like whatever works for you.
    Thank you

  46. T-S as fun to get one on Saturday! But...that gets into your weekend so whatever you decide is great for me.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Monday through Friday but I'll look for posts regardless of what you choose. My biggest frustration as a reader of blogs (this doesn't apply to this blog) is irregular posts. Once a week on a scheduled day is much better than random postings. This is my favorite fashion blog....just wish you used less black!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I read in Feedly and usually catch up leisurely over the weekend, so at the end of the day, I read on my schedule, so you should post on your schedule. Although whatever you decide, I hope the first of the month always gets covered for the rest of the year, as the monthly wardrobe is my favorite series by a long shot.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm a fan of mon-fri but do whatever works for you! I can tell you that I frequently use weekends to catch up on reading blog posts I may have missed...Love this blog...I find so many delightful ideas for combining colors and creating outfits.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I am flexible - enjoy the read at my first coffee break during the work day. You have taught me so much, an entirely new way of thinking and approaching my wardrobe, that I value your posts - whenever they arrive.

    ReplyDelete
  51. While I like Monday through Friday for quirky reasons of my own, I say, do what works best for you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. M-F is my preference. I don't have much time for blog reading on the weekends :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. I have no preference. First of all, take care of yourself. If that means 5 posts a week, or 4 or 3, do it. When there are no new posts, I reread something in the archives. Even if I've read it several months ago, I find something new. You are an inspiration to so many. We want your guidance for years to come. Think of this blog as a marathon, not a sprint. Sending you love and gratitude, Pat C.

  54. I tend to read M-F, for what that is worth. I don't think you need to post for 5 days in a row, but I do appreciate it when bloggers post with some regularity. I am glad you are thinking about what is sustainable and workable for you.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Monday through Friday, please!

  57. Hi Janice,

I really want you to post 7 days a week because that's what I want. But as Big Sam said in Gone With the Wind, "Wantin' ain't gettin'", I cast my vote for Monday-Friday.

I enjoy your work so much! I can hardly wait from day to day to get to the next post. Thank you for your work and enjoy your weekend like everyone else in the working world.

  63. What about posting a throwback Thursday. You have so much great content and rereading it is a joy. I read Monday through Friday and sometimes on the weekend. If I miss I catch up. As others have suggested, I would prefer you do what brings you joy and keep it as simple as you can for sustainability.

  64. I can't express how happy I am to have you back! I don't have a preference as to days, whatever work best for you is cool with me. The superb quality of your posts is what matters to me, and I'll take them however they come.

  65. Whatever works for you, works for me. I check your blog daily, and if there's not a new post I go to the archives. You and your muse surely deserve some time off! I appreciate the clarity you have brought to the way I dress myself. Thank you for all you do!

Also, thank you for sharing the beautiful mural above. I am constantly amazed by the ways that people find to make art and add beauty to our lives.

  68. I can always find something fabulous to read on your site, whether you have posted that day, or not! I would vote for 4 posts weekly... That gives you a three day wekend, or the flexibility to take a day in the middle of the week. I love your site, and would like to see you stay for the long haul, not burn out. Please do what is best for you and your creative impulses!

    ReplyDelete
  69. My vote is M - F, but honestly, I will read it whenever! I think you should consider cutting back, not because I don't love reading it everyday, but I don't want you to get burned out!! Yours is the only blog I follow that posts such great material so often! We all love you and will be happy with whatever you need to do!

As for your schedule: Do what´s good for you. Post as often or as rarely as you like. I will read every one of your posts eagerly and with pleasure.

And I could live in that mural. Those are my colours!

Thanks again for what you do.

  81. I agree with the others that you need to do what's best for you. Even 5 days a week is a remarkable feat given the amount of research you do for any given post. I'd rather see you cut back even farther if that means keeping you from burning out. I'd rather see one awesome post a week then none ever again :-)

When I visited you last fall, I think I mentioned that I would love to see a forum where we could discuss posts. I often want to comment on someone's comment and am unsure if they will ever see the reply, so I don't bother. A forum would give us some entertainment value whilst we are waiting on your next post. As much as I learn from you, I look forward to reading the others' comments just as much as the posts themselves.

  116. I will join the crowd that says, I enjoy your blog so much that I will read it anytime. You have no idea how much you have helped me coordinate my wardrobe, decided what to pack on a trip and just make it through a day. It is so good that you are "back" Since my daughter (often) reminds me that when someone asks for a preference, to answer it doesn't matter, isn't helpful, I will request Monday - Friday. Having said that, I will read your blog whenever you post. Peace and blessings!

  122. The mural is really special. I'd love to be able to see it while taking a walk or driving past. When I first saw it on the blog it looked like it was embroidered on the building--really!

Anyway you want to post is good, but Monday-Friday seems good to me. Especially if it corresponds to the Mr's schedule. Also, don't feel beholden to a schedule. You can take off for sick days, vacation days, personal days, and just treat it like a fun job with fewer hours. That way you keep it fresh for you, and thus for your readers. Also, I really love your more spontaneous observations, like this one. In a city like yours I'll bet you have tons of chic wardrobe and cultural sightings to share with people like me who no longer have access to big city life anymore.

  123. I am a recent subscriber to your blog and am always happy to see a post. If you have to scale it back, it's fine by me. I am still slowly going through the archives. Whatever you do, keep it fun for you! :)

  125. My first thought was Tuesday through Saturday, because Saturday is even more of a treat with your posts waiting for me. But, I tend to hoard your posts anyway, as they are such a treat to me, so I, too, will read whenever you bless me with a post!

I can't wait to see the wardrobes that you create based on that mural! How inspiring!
