Gorgeous – thank you Janice! This is my colorway and, with a warm wool coat, it will be perfect for my trip to Boston next weekend. Do you know about the Eagle Creek packing folders? They allow me to get everything easily into a small Coach gym bag and everything fits under the airplane seat – just in case bin space is limited. Have a wonderful holiday!! Kate

The red brings such Christmassy joy!

Something I really appreciate about these six-packs is that they keep the luggage weight down (as long as we're disciplined with toiletries and presents, etc.). I followed Kate's suggestion and visited Eagle Creek's website – very useful things and good lessons on how to pack.

But I was struck by one of the videos on the site, which was a tutorial on how to pack a carry-on case. It was interesting and the lady was methodical but dear me, her case must have weighed a ton. In Australia our carry-on limit for domestic flights is 7 kg (about 15.5 lb). This is as much as I can comfortably carry without hurting my neck and for short trips it's ideal. So I use a wheel-less bag, saving between 1 and 2 kg and allowing more room/weight for clothes. Plus negotiating cobbled streets and lots of lifting on and off buses/trains/plains/escalators/car boots (trunks?) is easier with a light, wheel-less bag.

Best of advice of all though are these suggested wardrobes from Janice which really show how to mix and match to advantage for a short trip with varied activities – without taking Too Much Stuff.

This is such a cute set. I love the plaid skirt. Red sure is a wake-me-up color. And I adore red heels.
