I’m still in Chicago…
Last Thursday evening, when we were heading to the airport to go to London, I fell while getting off of the Metra train. In my defense, the last step of the trains can be a half-meter from the step to the ground.
I rolled my right foot, and managed to severely sprain my ankle. I still can’t put much weight on it, and I walk like a little old lady, complete with cane.
So we will try to reschedule. My vacations are jinxed! But if this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I will consider myself amazingly lucky!
love,
Janice
Oh no! How terrible – hope the road to recovery is smooth and quick! London will have to wait for your purple scarves invasion! 😉
O no! I hope you are on the mend and will be able to reschedule your travels. In solidarity with you, I tripped over my own feet, in my own driveway, on Sunday, and sprained my wrist and pulled a muscle over my ribs. I had just started a membership at a gym after recovering from my last adventure. Oi!
Oh no! I just popped back on TVF to revisit your packing in consideration of my upcoming trip. You are having some serious bad luck while attempting to travel. But everything happens for a reason and you have the perfect attitude. I will pray for fast healing so you can make Paris! Thinking of you!!🤗
It does feel like you are jinxed! I hope you are doing okay. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Sorry our city treated you so roughly! Hoping you are back on your feet soon.
I’m so sorry that happened! These things happen and you will bounce back. Give yourself all the time you need.
Rats! Hope you heal quickly and well!
Ouch! So sorry this happened. Take care of yourself and may you recover swiftly.
Janice, I’m so sorry! When I flew to Santa Barbara last year for my yearly trip home, I literally tripped over a curb and landed on my side, breaking two ribs. I continued with the journey (of three planes from Portland, Maine to Santa Barbara, CA) and got an x-ray as soon as I arrived. It was not fun! However, I am so accident prone it never occurs to me that I will break bones…which I keep doing. (I broke my T-12 vertebrae in my kitchen, tripping over air, in late May).
Injuries happen. It’s terrible. I am so sorry it happened to you and I hope you feel much better soon.
xoxo
Great attitude for bad luck – rest and heal – I am thankful for you
Ugh, sorry to hear this, Janice! But I admire your positive attitude and am sending all the hugs and healing vibes that your recovery goes well!
Oh Janice, I am so sorry to hear this. You have an amazing attitude and I wish you a speedy recovery. Prayers and hugs!
I’m so sorry Janice! Prayers for you for a swift healing!
So sorry you’re injured; here’s wishing you a speedy recovery! As we’re just back from a trip to the UK getting around London via the Tube & then getting to & around Scotland by train, we found out there’s good reason there’s a “Mind the gap” warning at every stop–the gaps between train & platform vary a lot!
This wasn’t a gap – I wish it had been! The bottom step on the Chicago suburban trains can be two feel from the ground – toss in a bit of a distraction, and I will find a way to hurt myself…
We will get to London; it may not be soon, since I already have a trip to Paris planned in December. But one can never tell!
hugs,
Janice
I’m so sorry. I hope your ankle is better soon. Your positive attitude is sure to help!
Im sorry to read this. I hope you heal quickly. Hugs
OUCH…I took a misstep off the front porch in 2001 and rolled my ankle severely as well. Did Physical Therapy and it got better. Last summer I had a hip replacement on that same side and a couple of days after my surgery my ankle was in agony…worse than my hip. It was as if I had sprained it all over again. When I mentioned it at my one-month surgery follow up appointment, stating it felt like it did after I sprained it 23 years earlier, the doctor got a funny look on his face and said ‘During the surgery, we put your foot into a big boot stirrup and manipulated it pretty aggressively. Sprains never really go away; we probably reactivated it.’ Um, that explained a lot….just something to keep in mind should you find yourself getting replacement parts at some point….
Wow – thanks for that tip! I’ll make sure to mention sprains and breaks if I have to have knee or hip replacement. I hope you’re feeling better.
so sorry to hear about this! hope you’re on the mend soon, and very glad to hear that even if you cannot reschedule your London adventures for sometime this fall, you’ll always have Paris in December. wishing you a speedy rehabilitation.
Ouch! You were lucky that you didn’t break your foot. Being only 5 foot, I find trains a challenge, either trying to mind the gap or having to get up a narrow step that is nearly as long as my leg. I often have to helped. Train companies should really update their rolling stock so the doors are level with the platforms. I’m sending healing vibes and hope that you can rearrange your trip soon.
Adding my “so sorry” to the rest of the pile. Ugh, that just stinks. No stories to share about travel mishaps, just wishes for a quick mend.
Oh my, Janice! SO sorry you didn’t get to go to London. Sending you wishes for a speedy recovery!
Oh bummer! So sorry! Ice and ibuprofen for the win!
My solo 80th birthday celebration week in London ended after Day 2 with a dreadful gastric infection. The hospital emergency room staff was wonderful and I recovered just in time to fly home! Sometimes it’s better to have bad things happen before you leave home. Get well soon!
