I wasn’t sure at first – sometimes, a coincidence is JUST a coincidence. One shouldn’t make too much of these things…
But then Belovedest noticed it too: LOTS of women are wearing green dresses! We were walking along the river last week, and saw FIVE women in green dresses… We didn’t see five women in black, blue, red, yellow, AND white dresses.
Then today I went downstairs to our grocery store (in our building, the ultimate luxury!), and ran into one of my closest friends here in the building. Wear a green dress.
Okay, that’s a sign! So let’s look at some pretty dresses.
This first dress is pretty much exactly the color of peridots, so I gave this heroine some peridot jewelry. Realistically, her earrings and bracelet could be gold without any stones:
Dress – Lands’ End; earrings – Nellou Jewellery; peridot bracelet – JCPenney; bag – Moda Luxe; sandals – Talbots
I couldn’t resist the beautiful scarf for this heroine, but she could just as easily wear a gold and/or pearl necklace or bracelet with this:
It was relatively easy to find jewelry and a bag to match this dress, but this is another dress that would look great with gold accessories:
This is such a pretty dress, with the draped front. So I decided that this heroine could wear lace sneakers! The unexpected is always fun… This heroine could have a pair of gold sandals in her car for later, right?
Brown and green are lovely together; our world is full of green plants sprouting out of brown soil!
Earrings – Sylvia Toledano; bracelet – Soul Journey; dress – L.L.Bean; bag – J.Crew; sandals – J.Crew
If I were inclined to buy yet ANOTHER dress this summer, this would be it! Silver is really quite nice with this, I think:
Interestingly, I don’t own a stitch of green clothing! And I was told – decades ago – that green would be a good color for me. Hmm….
love,
Janice
p.s. No flashback today – something MUCH MORE EXCITING.
You of course know how much I love scarves. And we all love art, I assume. And we’ve discussed the dream of being able to have a scarf based on our favorite art.
NOW YOU CAN!!! This is where you want to look: scafos.com
This is a window designed by Harry Clarke, from a church somewhere in Ireland. I paid $28 for the rights to use this image, and then $180 for a HUGE silk and cotton scarf. (80 inches long…)
And it’s perfect. SO BEAUTIFUL. Yes, I’m doing a lot of shouting.
If you’ve ever dreamed of a scarf based on an image you love, now you can have it!
love,
Janice

Thank you so much. I love the Artiquel Square Silk Scarf and would really like to see a cool-toned capsule wardrobe in some of these shades.
Love, Anna
What a coincidence! I’m wearing a green dress today, with green sandals, orange blazer, gold earrings, gold and green necklace and a white pearl brooch.
I’ve owned this dress for years, pleased it will be fashionable this summer as it is comfortable and has pockets.
Coincidentally, ;), I just this week bought a green dress for the summer. What a timely post. The first Lands End dress is so pretty, I was tempted to get another green dress. But restraint is necessary, especially when it comes to my wardrobe. And that’s where I have the least control.
Wow! What a post! So much goodness here!
I just love dresses…especially in summer. I wear dresses from the first day it’s over 60 until after the leaves fall. These gorgeous green dresses would look pretty on so many women, with a variety of body shapes and coloring. You did a great job, Janice, of finding a perfect variety for the majority of of women. On a personal note; I own both the Boden and Lands End wrap dress, albeit not in green. I own the Boden dress in navy and the wrap dress in a teal print. I wear them both often, they fit perfectly and both wash up extremely well. I also have a variation on the LL Bean pullover dress (not this one, but one very similar, in the same fabric) and it is my go-to dress for the hottest of days. As many dresses as I already own, now I want the linen one from Lands End and the J Jill linen! Dresses are such a great ‘one and done’ way to get dressed and these could all be dressed up or down, based on accessories and shoes. Thank you for doing a post for my dress loving heart!
About the image uploader to make a scarf? What a fantastic idea…I’m going to look through some of my images to see what I can create within my color palette. You hit a winner with this one!
I love green and wear it often – all different shades. Most of the time I wear separates and I was surprised to see, when I looked, how many green dresses I have! They range from a light teal green to a deep forest green. Absolutely love your new scarf and the concept of making your favorite art piece into wearable art. Have a great weekend everyone!
😊. i don’t wear a ton of dresses, but the ones i do are often green!
Contrado.com will also print scarves to your design – and one of their many fabric options is silk twill. i’ve used them twice now for other fabric printing – once just fabric & once for a double layer fleece blanket with my design on one side – & was very pleased both times. service was quite fast & the quality was good. i keep muttering to myself about a scarf, too. (not affiliated, just a fan!)
That scarf is amazing! Is the art printed on the fabric?
Universal Standard has a bunch of green dresses. I own one which fits beautifully. Plus they are size-inclusive! I believe their website is universalstandard.com
The scarf looks EXACTLY like the painting – a lot of black, with all those fields of bright purple, red, yellow, and the faces… It’s amazing. I’ll try to photograph it and post it on Instagram. I’m really delighted, and already thinking about what I could have printed for a silk square scarf.
hugs,
Janice
Sure hope you plan to do a wardrobe based on your beautiful new scarf!
I know just who needs an art scarf for Christmas. Muchísimas gracias for the tip!!!
A nice assortment of green dresses. Enough different styles and shades of green that there should be something for everybody. Of course, I’m leaning toward the first one because peridot is my birthstone, and I already have jewelry to match.
Your new scarf!!!!! I’m going to check out the Jjill dress. I own several of their linen dresses and they wash and wear beautifully. I was sorry to read it didn’t have pockets. Why oh why ? pockets are the one thing women ALWAYS exclaim about.
I absolutely love Harry Clarke’s work. I have just returned from a few days in Westport where I saw a copy of his St Gobnailt and the Bees in the Museum of Country Life. I decided I had to have a copy and the thought of having it on a scarf is magic to my mind. Thank you Janice.
The olive green Dress #5 is giving me Girl Scouts vibes. Even tho that wasn’t the color of my uniform, & it’s missing the sash & bow tie. That’s definitely a great outfit for when on vacation near the look or woods. (Why yes, I’m from small town Michigan)
Green is such a universal colour; there is a green for everyone. My greens have to have a blue undertone ranging from light duck egg green to dark teal. I recently ‘borrowed’ my husband’s spruce green jumper and I quite liked the colour on me.
Green could be used as a neutral with complimentary/contrasting accents. My summer green dress has large pink flowers on it.
Ha! Like others, I also wore a green dress today! Mine is a light jade color print which just might be my best shade, although I adore nearly all greens! I can’t believe you have no green in your wardrobe! Time to trade out some black for some green…! 😉
Oh, I love green. 💚
And since I wear it so often, it’s a staple color for me.
I also have green dresses, of course. They’re all patterned, and I’ve been looking for a solid color with the perfect cut for a long time.
Oh my! Thats not a scarf, that’s a wrap dress or a sari in disguise! It’s gorgeous! And I really like the dresses in today’s post as well. The one with silver accents was perfect.
Happy Birthday Janice! My wish for you is to have a wonderful day and an awesome year ahead, too. Thank you so very much for everything you do! Elisa in Alaska
Thank you!
big hugs,
Janice
I have just last week learnt that there is a church in town with a Harry Clarke window and it is absolutely stunning! Excellent choice of scarf art!
Where’s this? Spill the beans!
I’m going to see some Harry Clarke next week when I’m in Dublin; my hotel has one of his windows, and the Hugh Lane gallery has some. I think the National Gallery does too, maybe?
love,
Janice
