The Sixth of Six Paintings-Twelve Months, March 2025

March 10, 2025

The last of our paintings, but certainly not the least! Frankly, I don’t know that I could rank these paintings, nor rank the wardrobes. Happily, there are lots of things going on in the world in which there are NO winners and losers…

Oh, that looks so nice….

At the end of February, our heroine had this 12-piece capsule wardrobe. Good for travel to a destination that’s bright and sunny, but not necessarily very warm:

With warmer weather in mind, our heroine grabs some decidedly summery things! But she doesn’t miss the chance to buy the scarf that includes a lot of her colors. She may not wear it for a few months, but these kinds of things don’t show up every week.

Juniper agate earrings – Herself Collections; faded mint tee – J.Crew; scarf – Tiger and the Monkey; medium khaki poplin shirt – Alex Mill; foggy blue cotton sweater – L.L.Bean; white linen shorts – Lands’ End; white sandals – Lands’ End

Just adding shorts and sandals makes a lot of difference!

Her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe plan is all over the place, which is FINE. If she’s happy with her wardrobe – so far – that’s what’s most important!

If there’s anything at all that you take from The Vivienne Files, it must be that THERE ARE NO RULES. If you’re decently covered, and happy, then you’ve got a successful wardrobe!

I know you’re shocked to learn that there are quite a few ways for this heroine to incorporate her new purchases into her existing wardrobe! But honestly, if you bring something home and don’t know how to wear it, SEND IT BACK!!!!

So after seeing all six wardrobes updated, where does your heart land? I’m still leaning toward Delaunay and brown, navy, teal and white… That would be a BIG change for me!

love,

Janice

p.s. The earlier installments of posts about this wardrobe are found here: Christmas Day Preview, January, February.

p.p.s. Ten years ago, we had a still life by Samuel John Peploe, and a warm weather wardrobe in navy, red, green and white!

You’ve found the perfect matching pieces again.
This wardrobe matches the Delaunay. I wear them together.
And I already have most of them in my closet. The perfect mix of light and dark.

This is a very sweet, soft, Zen, quiet wardrobe. I can completely see how this would appeal to a woman for whom the dreamy palette would work. When you favor bright, vibrant colors, as I do, this would not do. I’m all about bright pink, orange, French blue and a more striking teal, as well as bolder patterns. What I love about The Vivienne Files, however, is that I could take these base pieces and find them in my own colors and patterns. The template for the wardrobe is a winner…but it’s up to us (as Janice has mentioned) to redesign the idea to suit our needs and taste.

I love that I could take this template, go to my closet and find three button downs that are in my own colors (and in truth, bold patterns),3 bottoms that would go with all, as well as sweaters, scarves and tees, to create my own version. Thank you, Janice, for giving us the tools!

I echo Ellen S.’s comments. Love the O’Keeffe wardrobe and will use it as inspiration for a late-summer, coastal vacation. It has a nice balance of soft and bold. The Johansson wardrobe is appealing for colors to wear in the cooler, fall weather. The other four palettes are too subdued for me as I also like to include vibrant colors in my wardrobe. But, as Ellen points out, the wardrobes are easy to adapt into a template in which you describe each garment by type (e.g., top, layer, bottom) and a generic color name such as Light Neutral, Dark Neutral, Accent 1, Accent 2, etc.

I’ve looked at this on two screens this morning but still my eyes are seeing more mid blue and soft teal. I do like this but would have wardrobe and it could do the mileage with what I have but I would have a mid-tone blue. I would have taupe and ocean blue for my bottom half.

I found a gorgeous blue striped scarf in a local shop last week. The blues go from dark navy through ocean blue, blue-grey and light blue. The weave is slightly crinkled and it has silver thread going through it as well. It looks like waves on the ocean catching the sunlight.

Yesterday, I removed plum/burgundy from my wardrobe – it’s too heavy a colour for spring and my darker coloured polo neck tops. They will be stored till late September. I’ll still keep all the deep purples as purple, in all its shades, is my main accent colour throughout the year. My wardrobe now looks lighter and brighter ready for Spring.

However, the temperature has dropped in the UK from a sunny 18/19C at the weekend to a measly and dull 8/9C today, so I’m keeping the mid-light coloured thick jumpers out. I’m wearing one today in a mid-grey ribbed marl with teal cords. If the polar vortex collapses as predicted this week, then some parts of the country will have snow!

The O’Keefe is calling me. It is my favorite of this year.

It’s a toss up for me between the O’Keeffe and this one. Both have a nice relaxed style. For this Pines by the Sea, I would lean more into the mid blues or denim than the white. Love the accessories.

I love all the paintings and can see the appeal in all the wardrobes. But the Klint and the Magill are my two favorites. If either one of those magically showed up in my closet tomorrow morning, I would not cry.

I love this – IMHO I don’t think there’s a loser in the bunch this year, I like them all. Going back to December so I could see all of them, the one I can most identify with is the O’Keeffe. Two of my primary colors are blue and green, so I could make this work with what I have.

Beth T that new scarf sounds amazing.!

I had not realised what a fabulous color combination teal and camel is.

My front-runner is the Magill. I wear navy instead of gray, but the simple color palette is right up my alley. Not my colors at all, but the Street Lights wardrobe is really appealing as well.

I love this one a lot. I don’t actually wear any of the colors except the white and a tiny bit of the teal, but the meshing of the colors and styles here is the most beautiful to my eye. I’m hoping to learn some things through the year for my own wardrobe.
