No New Post Tomorrow…

Four Objects shirt and Oliver Charles sweater

I’ve been in New York.

I managed to fall Saturday night, and am now struggling to move around.

We are heading back to Chicago, a day late…

Tomorrow will be dedicated to an emergency clinic visit, and some pain medication. I hope!

Love,

Janice

Sorry to hear of your mishap. You are too young to “manage to fall”or “had a fall”! I was told off by my physio when I said that, after breaking my elbow last year. I recommend hot showers/baths with bath salts for relaxation, ice pack for inflammation, gentle exercises to keep moving, magnesium oil massaged into the aches and Arnica cream for bruises. Hope you feel better soon. Hugs x

THIS. Do take care, take your time to heal & recover, but keep the gentle exercise to keep moving – bug your doc for a physical therapy script if needed. The biggest risk as we age is damage due to the recovery time, not even the fall itself. Sending hugs Janice, and best wishes for a swift recovery and a reduction in pain!!

Sending lots of love to you Janice.
May I also post a gentle reminder that while we all have occasional trips or slips, often the difference between a close call and disaster is core strength and working on balance. As we age we lose some of our brain body connection and it takes specific practice to keep those pathways working or to compensate for diminished neural connection between our brain and body. We need to be strong enough and connected enough that when we trip, we hopefully escape a fall. So ladies, be sure you are working on balance and core strength.
Love to you all. It is so nice to be connected with this lovely community.

So true! I’m normally pretty coordinated, and have excellent balance. (I brush my teeth while standing on 1 foot, with my eyes closed…)

But I can’t REMEMBER falling – I remember walking into the bathroom at 4 a.m. – I was sober, wide-awake, and knew exactly where I was. The next thing I know, the room is spinning, and I’m flying through the air. I can’t quite BELIEVE that I flew through the air, but that’s a wee bit that I recall. And then I am on my hands and knees on the bathroom floor, calling for Belovedest to come shepherd me back to bed. I crawled. Since then, I’ve been having back spasms on top of the damage from the fall. I see to have bumped myself on the FRONT of my ribcage on the right, the side of my ribs on the left, and a really whalloping smack on the back of my ribs on the right. But no bruises!

I deserve large, lurid, vividly colored and frighteningly textured bruises…
      hugs,
      Janice

Maybe blood pressure or heart related? So many body systems can affect us in so many crazy ways.
Great tip about finding ways in our daily routine to work on balance and core strength. All those short bursts of practice really add up.
And of course, despite our best efforts, sometimes, s!!t happens.
        Love to all
        Annie

Agreed, everything should be checked- although, sometimes falling happens so quickly, your brain doesn’t really have time to register “experiencing” it in real time. on the other hand, sometimes we fall almost in slow motion … having experienced both, it can be quite disconcerting (how am I in the air? and then landed with a THUD), but also pretty normal based on the speed.
