Building a Capsule Wardrobe by Starting with Art: Owl on Ginko Branch by Ohara Koson

Just wonderful:

 While the vast majority of this painting is in shadings of beige and black, there are a couple of glorious accents of russet and olive...

She Works Nights

Someone has to monitor those data servers - they run HOT, and they have to be watched 24/7. She loves the night sky, so she took the job...

Earrings – Argento Vivo; cardigan – Mango; scarf – Nordstrom;
cross-body bag – Elizabeth and James; tote – Tumi; watch – Skagen
tee – L.L.Bean; pants – J. Crew; loafers – Coclico

So she works for 5 minutes, and then looks out the window for 5. It keeps her moving around, and she's learned a lot about the night sky.

Pearl necklace – Effy; moon necklace – Dogeared; cardigan – Uniqlo;
 earrings – Majorica; bracelet – Delfina Delettrez; linen tunic – Uniqlo;
 russet tee – Uniqlo; jeans – J. Crew; skirt – L.L.Bean; moon scarf –
Shadowplay New York; sweater – L.L.Bean; flats – French Sole
stars scarf - Givenchy

Now that her company has grown, she's called on to work with people in other offices. Still at night, when the regular staff is at home, and just the emergency teams are in place.

Everyone marvels at how well she does during the night - never sleepy, never a dip in her energy level.

She's a Cancer. She doesn't believe in these things, but it might explain why the sight of the moon makes her feel so strong...

  1. Welcome back! This wardrobe is incredible. I love the art, the colors, the clothes, and the story! And that moon scarf is an incredible find. You certainly returned to us full of creative energy, and I can't wait to see what more you have in store for us.

  2. Janice,
    I echo what Cee Pluse has posted ! I am loving the subtlety of this scheme -- neutrals, with both a warm and a cooler accent, if you can consider olive a cooler hue. That moon scarf plays into your storyline so beautifully, as does the scarf with stars ! Make the black a brown shade, and this set of clothes would be quite happy in my closet ! It's a joy to have you back ! Hugs !

  3. I see what you did there. Love this Night Owl wardrobe.

  4. I think when you're a Cancer, you don't need to *believe* for the Moon to really have an effect on you.

    Ask me how I know. Of course, *I* do ~believe~ in these things. =)

    Lovely wardrobe.

    Welcome back!

  5. I have missed these stories! What a wonderful image of that owl - not my colours but love how all the pieces work together so well in what I would term a "dressy/casual" wardrobe. I'm going to click on those scarves and take a closer look - so happy you are back!

  6. I love the whole 'thing,' the painting, the charateristics and the wardrobe. Subtle and unique. Welcome back! I/we have missed you!

  7. This is incredibly beautiful on so many levels. Wow....

  8. Oh, my...I am smitten with that moon scarf. SMITTEN. So not in my budget,but so beautiful. And I don't believe in these things, either, but my birthday is

  9. I am in love with this post. The scarf, the story, the wardrobe are all delightful! Welcome back.

  10. I am a July girl and that moon scarf has my name all over it! Thanks Janice!

  11. Very much an early bird myself, but I would happily wear any of these combinations. They are wonderful indeed.

  12. I am a night owl Cancer (and very tickled by what you did with this post) - who doesn't believe in these things either - but I definitely love this wardrobe and would wear anything in it, maybe even the olive! - nancyo

  13. I so love this post. The colours, the styles, the textures just make me sigh in comfort. And in beauty. Bliss. I have been that person. Everything resonates.
    Thank you.

  15. Great new colors to wear with black! Good to have you back.

  16. WOW! I never would have thought to pair those colors together...they are stunning and so versatile. Absolutely love the wardrobe and the variety of outfits. Welcome back!
