For Nelson Mandela

The Eiffel Tower, lit in the colors and design of the South African flag.

Turns out that this was NOT, in fact, done to commemorate the life of Nelson Mandela.  But it's beautiful, and appropriate, and I am going to leave it here for us to enjoy.

  4. Stephen Lewis, the Canadian politician and diplomat whose foundation is focused on fighting HIV-AIDS in Africa, said an interesting thing: that some world leaders resented Mandela because he was such an exemplar of compassion and reason. They preferred to rule by fear and violence, and Mandela, with his world-statesman reputation, made things harder for them. Now, he wondered, who can take his place?
