A Travel Capsule Wardrobe - Packing in brown and turquoise

This is the last iteration of the original "honeymoon" packing theme that I started over a week ago.  But in the next few days, I'm going to do some imaginary shopping, I've got a chic sighting to share, and then I'm going to tackle a "second honeymoon in Paris" theme, which will have a slightly greater focus on neutral colors and modest silhouettes!

Brown cardigan – Aviu, turquoise earrings - Debenhams, white tee – Michael Stars, Scarf – Hermes, turquoise coat – Paul Smith, brown pants – Maxmara, penny loafers – J. Crew, brown bag – Christopher Kon

sunglasses – Modcloth, brown & turquoise woven clutch – Miu Miu, gold hoop earrings – J. C. Penney, turquoise striped top – Full Tilt, turquoise chandelier earrings – Aurelie Bidermann, white short-sleeved button-front top – Kookai, printed dress – J.C. Penney, brown tee – Oasis, turquoise cardigan – FTC, khaki capris – Levi’s, striped skirt – Vionnet, lace top – Dorothy Perkins, brown dress – Bailey 44, turquoise linen tee – Caypso St. Barth, brown ballet flats – Banana Republic, gold sandals – Vaneli, turquoise bracelet – Fantasy Jewelry Box, brown sandals – Madrone

  2. Love these colors. Always an inspiration to combine colors in new ways. Please consider writing a book sometime.

  3. Thank you so much for such beautiful blog. I anxiously wait for each post to enjoy the surprise of what colours you'll be mixing! I wonder though whether we could make this formula work with more than a neutral and a pop of colour. I am going to Europe in June for a 4 days conference but am extending the trip and making it a family vacation. We'll stay for 2 weeks and have a 5 year old in tow, so no romantic nights out. Would you be able to suggest something for me with, say 2 neutrals and 2 accent colours?

    1. Dear Erica,
If you pick the colors, I'll work on something for you!
Just leave another comment with your color preferences, and I'll get right on it...

    2. Oh, Vivienne, that's so very kind of you! Let's see: black is a neutral too harsh for my skin tone and light browns/beiges close to my face make me look washed out. As I still cannot think like you do, I thought in terms of bottoms and tops: white, khaki and light olive green bottoms. Then I was going to get an array of tops to rotate: from breton striped Ts to taupe pointelle loose fitting sweaters, and from turquoise to purple pretty knitted tops. Dresses would be a completely separated category to me. Awful, I know! And if that wasn't enough there are the 4 days of conference wear! I wish I could only take a carry on so I need your help! :) Does this make any sense to you?
      Huge thanks!

    3. If you like turquoise and purple, and you can't wear black, have you considered grey as a neutral. Grey and navy are quite a bit more forgiving than black, and will work beautifully with everything from tee shirts to sweaters to whatever else I can dream up...
      let me know

    4. Of course! I had thought of navy, as it goes so well with purple and turquoise but had completely forgotten about grey - that is genius! I love it already! :) Million thanks!

  4. Thanks so much. It's a s lovely as I thought it might be. Am learning so much and planning my summer wardrobe so differently. Can't believe I just ordered two pairs of white slacks - just alike. They will be one starting point! many thanks!!

  5. Beautiful! Every time I look at your blog, I realize that there is so much more variety in my wardrobe than I thought. The brown/turqouise combo is so chic and a second to my favourite brown/tangerine pairing. Thanks Vivienne!

  6. Vivienne, I don't even know you, but I love you! ;) I look forward to receiving your new post every night. Can't wait for the second honeymoon in Paris!!! Can it be gray and pink, pretty please? And how did you know I'd like to see things that cover a bit more skin?

  8. I just came back from a travel weekend with a VivienneFiles-inspired weekender shoulder bag holding everything I needed (gray neutrals with a golden yellow trenchcoat and a few white and yellow separates). I loved the lightweight freedom and the confidence that my little bag contained all kinds of combinations for various occasions and for changeable spring weather. Thank you for making me feel as if I have a personal wardrobe trainer!

I would be thrilled if anyone could offer some help.I hope to wear some navy and fuscia in my wardrobe.
    Hope someone can help.
    Blessings

  10. Dear Vivienne:
Thanks for all these posting on packing wardrobes! I can`t believe it, but following you approach, I have managed to settle on a 5+2+7 wardrobe for two months travelling in summer! It is so liberating...

I'm just struggling with accesories. I mean, bag in neutral (navy)? or in accent (pink/red, I'm still deciding)? And what about shoes?
