The shopping fast: month 4

I'm now 122 days into my year-long "no new clothes" vow, and I am finding that, honestly, it's not difficult, and it's really quite... mentally freeing.  When you eliminate things from your life (like I NEVER think about sky-diving!), it frees you up to pay attention to other things.  Walking up Michigan Avenue without window shopping and mentally "trying on" all sorts of garments is what has given me the mental bandwidth to observe the various looks that I've been able to share with you.  And when I don't shop, it gives me some perspective on the buying behaviors of other people, which is quite educational.  More on that tomorrow...

What I wore in December?  Work clothes, my swimsuit (hot tub in my building!), and a couple of dinner outfits - sweater & Hermes.  I've included fragrances this month, because some days they're the only thing that differentiates me from a teenage boy, fashion-wise, is the way I smell.  Sigh...  And a variety of winter scarves; if I'm going to wear a black jacket every day, I can at least brighten the look up a bit.

Happiest of years to you all; be wise, be safe, be contented, and share you love with the rest of humanity!

  1. Nicely done! You are an inspiration...I am getting very close to my own clothes shopping fast. I actually think I am doing it but I still am on the hunt for some black pants. The handbag fast is proving much more challenging. Thank goodness 2012 started (I don't know why but maybe a resolution will give me stronger resolve). ~~Bliss

  2. Marvelous outfits! You'd never know that you're on a shopping fast given the beauty of the pieces--but then, that's why you don't need to go shopping.

Happy New Year! Can't wait to read the post about shopping.

  3. You've really given me a good year! I have printed out a number of selections and used them as inspiration for my wardrobe. My wardrobe is slimmer, I'm slimmer, my bank account is...not.

thank you for wearable, affordable styling. May the new year bring you everything you need and a bit more for fun.
